I talk about culture and its importance in building a business and franchise system a lot. In fact, like Herb Keller, founder of Southwest Airlines, I often believe it is the most important part of your business to focus on (I say often because there are times when I do think other things are more important, especially in trying times! However, I eventually always come back to culture) (See my post “We Will Miss You” and “Culture Eats Process For Breakfast” for more on Southwest.)
But it isn’t the only thing. I like this equation for business success:
Business Success = Culture x Strategy x Execution.
Good strategy will set you in the right direction for success in the future against your competition. Execution will ensure that this strategy gets carried out. But it is culture that I find most companies miss. For some reason they don’t get this part of the equation.
The reality is this: a great culture will provide the foundation for flawless execution.
